Generational Intelligence
Knowing generations is one thing; generational intelligence is another. Generational diversity refers to the presence of people of different ages and experiences within the same organization; generational intelligence is the capacity to understand one another’s perspectives, learn from one another, and create together. In this talk, Evrim Kuran moves beyond reading generations solely through birth years, expectations, and workplace preferences, and focuses instead on our capacity to relate to the “age-other.” From structural lag and tacit knowledge to reverse mentoring and generativity, she examines organizations’ assumptions about age, how knowledge travels across generations, and the role leadership plays in that transfer. The question is: How can we build an organization where different generations learn from one another, ideas can change without waiting for people to change, and no one is treated as “the other” simply because of their age?
